Currently there are officially two budget airline operating here in Malaysia. First is our well known Airasia airline, followed by Firefly.

Airasia airline is operating from Low Cost Carrier Terminal a.k.a LCCT, located in Sepang next to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, KLIA. Airasia is operating domestic and several international flights with its new Airbus series.

Firefly is a subsidiary of our famous 5 stars carrier Malaysia Airlines System. Firefly is operating from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (SAAS) Subang Airport. Only 25 minutes from KLCC.

Firefly is operating limited domestic (Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, Kuantan, Langkawi, Penang) and international flights, currently to, Phuket and Koh-Samui, Thailand.

Firefly uses a smaller aircraft, its Fokker 5o.

Both budget airlines will introduce several crazy airfare promotions in a year. It can go as low as RM0.05 cent excluding the airport tax, administration fees and fuel surcharge.

Personally I’ve experience both Airasia and Firefly services. One thing in common is that, they do not provide any refreshment and also disallow you to have your own food on board. I don’t mine if it’s a 45minutes journey but I’m surely will be starving if I travel to Sarawak or Sabah as it will take nearly two hours to reach there. Not sure what are the regulations on International flights.

Overall, they both provide good services with cheaper price. Now everyone can really fly!
