Mount Kinabalu – 1Pendakian, 1Kemuncak, 1Malaysia
April 25th, 2010 | by amdTaufik |Mount Kinabalu or well known Gunung Kinabalu in Malay is one of the tallest mountain (the 3rd highest mountain in South East Asia) and a prominent mountain in Southeast Asia. Mount Kinabalu is located in Kinabalu National Park (a World Heritage Site) in the east Malaysian state of Sabah, which is on the island of Borneo in the tropics.
Mount Kinabalu surroundings are among the most important biological sites in the world, over 600 species of ferns, 326 species of birds, and 100 mammalian species identified. Among them are the gigantic Rafflesia plants and the orangutan. Mount Kinabalu has been accorded UNESCO World Heritage status.
The main peak of the mountain (Low’s Peak) can be climbed quite easily by a person in peak physical condition. If not fit enough, though, the climb can be very hard despite there being no need for mountaineering equipment at any point on the main route. Other peaks along the massif, however, require rock climbing skills.
On 20 April 2010, Mohd Nor Amin managed to climb Mount Kinabalu 111 times in 111 days, part of the 1Pendakian, 1Kemuncak, 1Malaysia project and put his name into the Malaysia Book of Records. Mohd Noor who took over three months to conquer South-east Asia’s highest peak began his 111th climb at 7.20am and reached Timpohon Arch, Taman Kinabalu at 11.50am
